Gatineau Park, October 1, 2016

It is hard to believe that it is October.  We still to have our first frost and the leaves are, for the most part, stubbornly green.  I participated in the first of the Gatineau Park High Country Challenge.  It was lead by Jim and Dorothy acted as sweep.  We started at Steele and Wilson, climbed up to Tomato Hill, followed the escarpment to the Sand Pit, cross the road and picked up the trail to the lower escarpment (I gathered that it is called Church Hill Ridge), circled around and came back by Grand View.  The air was damp and cool, and it was overcast all day.  The insect population was not a big factor, just a nuisance.  “A very nice hike” would be a good description.

A nice pond en route. Alas, I did not hear any frog.
